You may not even have to read this because I made the site as intuitive and efficient as I could, but briefly, here are any instructions you may need to get around.

Getting Around The Sand Fortress Web Site

Menu Buttons

There are buttons on the Home page main menu that take you to all the main subsections of the site. You can also use the text link that always comes with them. This same system is used on the Fortresses page to get to all of the fortresses. The main menu link that sends you to Site Information looks like this, and you can click it again if you want to go to that page again. Uh... even though you were just there.

Shut Up

At first, some people believe I am sometimes verbose, but the truth is, I'm not actually that loquacious, and certainly not garrulous, simply effusive with details when telling a story. I'm a visual thinker and sometimes when I talk, I'm trying to keep up with the pictures in my head, squeezing the most out of them to paint as vivid a picture as I can. I suppose it's because of this volubility that there is a lot of text on this web site.

I know a visitor may not want to read all this text, maybe they, maybe you, just want to get to the good stuff right away. Maybe you'll read the details later, but first you just want to get to the photographs. That's fine, and that's why I employ "Shut Up" links all over the place. Use them whenever you feel it is necessary. Example:

-Shut up and get to the next part-

Location Link Bars

At the top of every page on the site is a "location link bar." It not only tells you where you are and how far away from the home page you are, but also allows links back out. The location link bar on the top of this page tells you you're reading the Site Information page, which is a menu item of the Home page, and you could click the "Home" link to go to the Home page.

In this inactive sample, you would be currently viewing a page called "100 Cool" under the "1234" fortress page, which is a menu item on the July page under the Fortresses page, which is linked to from the Home page. You could click any of the four links to go to any of those pages. The links to the Home and Fortresses pages go directly to the menus on those pages. Sample:

Home \ Fortresses \ July \ 1234 \ 100 Cool

Menu Bars

At the bottom of every page on the site is a "menu bar." It contains a link to the Home page as well as a link to each page under the Home page. Unlike the location link bar, the links to the Home and Fortresses pages go to the top of the page instead of the menu. Here is an active copy of the menu bar on the bottom of this page.

Page Links

Similar to the "Shut Up" links, they take you to a different part of the same page. They are the same color and are also in italics. Example:

Navigating Photographs

There are two ways to view a set of photographs: In the order they were taken, thus, the order the fortress was constructed (chronologically); and in the order of the physical location of the camera. You can access any picture in random order from the Chronological and Map Placement photography menus. Once you are viewing a photograph, you can then cycle through using either method with the dual link bars on the right side of the page.

Take a virtual walk around a fortress. Clicking "Left" will "walk" left, "Right" will "walk" right, and "Map" will take you back to the Placement Map:

Left | Map | Right

Spend an afternoon at the beach. View the photos in the same order as they were taken, spending a condensed afternoon at the beach. "Previous" goes to an earlier photo, "Next" goes to the photo taken next. "Chrono" will take you back to the Chronological menu:

Previous | Chrono | Next

Reference Links

When a reference is made to a person, word, a fortress, another page, etc., that reference will often be a link to that which it is referring to. As an example, if I refer to my friend Meiko and you want to know more information about who this person is, you can follow the link. There will always be a link back to the original reference.
