Here is a close up of the two intake filters. This was an early version
of them. At this early stage, they consisted of ordinary screen material,
the kind you would use for a window, rolled up and held together
(embarrassingly enough) with bag ties. Not a very elegant or sturdy design,
but it did work--it kept sand, and anything else for that matter, out of the
drainage pipes. Here you can see little bits of seaweed that floated into
the fortress but did not go down the drain.
The 90° connectors were put on the filters to help prevent them from
unrolling. To learn more about them, see the "Drainage System."
