Fortress 4070
Home \ Fortresses \ April 2000 \ 4070 \ 100 BeachIn the foreground is the last tower I built. I had completed the rest of the fortress to my satisfaction and the tide had still not come in. So, while I was waiting, I built this tower. I made it on its own separate foundation, like a nearby island, figuring that the tide would flow into the fortress through the small channel between it and this tower, and it did. The rough, square arch at the end of the fortress on the other side of the channel collapsed fairly quickly after the tide flooded it, but looking at it now, that's no surprise; not much of a foundation, and square arches aren't as structurally sound as curved ones. The tops of the two towers in the background, shaped like flames, were carved, but the ball on the top of the tower in the foreground was a sand ball made by hand and placed there. Bellows Beach is off in the distance. You can't really see it in the photo but it's above the small arch connecting the tower on the other side of the fortress and as far back as you can see. Since I got there around 10:30 on a Friday, Bellows wasn't opened to the public yet. Left | Map |
